About me

DR. Mostafa Attia is an international consultant on disability inclusion with 20 years of experience and lived experience with disability. He obtained his MA and PhD in disability and inclusive development from the University of Leeds. These in addition to his consultancies involved him with the global barriers that can hinder PWDs’ access to services and being mainstreamed in their communities.

He collaborated with various organizations including Disability Inclusion Helpdesk UK, Foreign and Commonwealth Office, European Disability Forum, Humanity, and Inclusion, Inclusion International, Drosos Foundation, GIZ, UNESCWA, UNDP and the UNDRR.

He joined the UNICEF MENA regional office as a disability inclusion international consultant to submit a regional action plan on disability reflecting UNICEF DIPAS (disability inclusion policy and strategy)

He worked with “Inclusion International” and “Birmingham University” organizations to enforce disability mainstreaming and prioritization of PWD rights within the risk reduction framework especially for pandemics, climate change and other disasters faced globally. As a result, he produced literature reviews that demonstrate the impact of conflicts on students with disability to access inclusive education, a situational analysis of mainstreaming PWDs in DRR in the Arab region.

He examined disability mainstreaming within DRR strategies and climate change action plans through his work as an international consultant on disability inclusion with UNDRR Arab region office, which led to designing a regional guideline for mainstreaming PWDs in DRR and TOR for establishing the disability inclusion stakeholders group in the Arab region along with contextualized inclusive disaster resilience scorecard for cities that guarantees the prioritization of PWDs demands within early warning systems, disaster support and beyond as well as interacting the theme of disability inclusion across the regional assessment report.

Being a trustee of the Disability Rights UK. He has managed to support the designing, writing and distribution of Disability Rights UK statements on disability mainstreaming among all Cop 27, cop 28 participants.

His activism included recording podcasts to raise community awareness regarding disability and inclusive climate action: https://www.disabilityinclusiveclimate.org/enabling-commons/mostafa-kamal-attia.
