Side Event 11: Advancing disability-inclusive development through intensified parliamentary engagement and parliamentary networks

Location:Hall 7.3Track:Side Event

CBM International and the International Disability Alliance (IDA) will hold a Side Event whose objective is to discuss the establishment of an International Parliamentary Network for Disability Inclusion. This initiative aims to create a global network of parliamentarians dedicated to promoting disability-inclusive development, addressing the current absence of such a coalition. The proposed Network will facilitate collaboration among lawmakers worldwide, enabling the exchange of best practices, policy innovations, and legislative strategies to advance the rights and inclusion of persons with disabilities.

The formation of this parliamentary network aligns with the objectives of the GDS, which serves as a platform to galvanize global efforts toward disability inclusion. By engaging legislators directly, the initiative seeks to ensure that national policies and laws reflect the commitments made under international frameworks like the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD). This concerted effort is expected to lead to more effective implementation of disability-inclusive policies, fostering environments where persons with disabilities can fully participate in all aspects of society.
