Side Event 23: Disability Inclusive Urban Resilience and Disaster Risk Reduction
The main objective of this Side Event is to explore strategies for building disability-accessible and inclusive, resilient cities, emphasizing multi-stakeholder collaboration. The event will show how governments, civil society organizations, persons with disabilities, and other stakeholders can create accessible, inclusive, and disaster-resilient urban spaces. Specific attention will be given to implementing the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), particularly Articles eleven and thirty-two, amplifying disability accessibility and inclusion in disasters as well as international cooperation for inclusive development and disaster risk reduction. Additionally, the event will showcase commitments towards disability-inclusive urban resilience for the GDS 2025.
This event will highlight the importance of multi-stakeholder efforts in fostering cities that leave no one behind. Together, we can ensure that resilience-building efforts are inclusive, protecting persons with disabilities from disaster risks and involving them in shaping the future of our cities. The goal is to demonstrate how collaborative efforts can create safer, more resilient cities for everyone by making disability accessibility and inclusion a central component of urban resilience strategies.
