Amb. Dr. Haifa Abu Ghazaleh

Prior to being an Assistant Secretary General at the League of Arab States. Her Excellency was appointed as Minister of Tourism and Antiquities - Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan in 2011. Dr. Abu Ghazaleh held may prestigious positions throughout her career including Senator to the Jordanian Upper House of Parliament, Special Envoy for the League of Arab States Secretary-General to the Civil Society as well as being the Regional Director of UN Women Arab States Regional Office.

For more than Three decades, Dr. Abu Ghazaleh is heavily involved and active at the Global Regional and National level in the areas of policy and legislative reform, Women Empowerment, Combating Violence Against Women, Strategic Planning, Human Rights, Peace and Security, Media & Communication and Early warning.

H.E has published over 100 papers, publications, and journal articles based on her knowledge and expertise, and has prepared a number of national and regional strategies which are published in Arabic & English, most notably the Regional Strategy to Combat Violence Against Women, the Regional Strategy for Women, Peace, and Security as well as the Regional Framework for Protecting Women from Violence.

Her Excellency Dr. Abu Ghazaleh was recently awarded the United Nations Population Award 2024. In 2005, H.E was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize following her nomination selection for the '1000 women for Noble Peace Prize 2005.
