About me
Mr. Aukrust (b. 1985) has a bachelor’s degree in Sociology from the University of Oslo and has served the Norwegian Labour Party in various capacities for nearly 25 years. He was elected to parliament in 2009 and has been re-elected three times before being asked to serve as Minister of International Development in February 2025. Mr. Aukrust was the deputy chairman of the Workers’ Youth League (AUF) from 2010 to 2014 and is a survivor of the 2011 terrorist attack at Utøya. In parliament, he has served as a member of the Committee for Energy and Environment (2013-2021) and as co-chair of the Committee for Foreign Affairs (2021-2025).
The Minister of International Development is responsible for international development efforts in countries outside the OSCE, the Middle East and Afghanistan. He is also responsible for Norwegian humanitarian efforts, development cooperation under the auspices of the UN system, the World Bank, the regional development banks and other global funds and programmes. In addition, he is Minister for Nordic Co-operation.
