Main Event: From Risk Reduction to Recovery: Disability-Inclusive Practices for Disasters and Conflicts

Persons with disabilities are often disproportionately affected by disasters and armed conflicts due to physical, social, and systemic barriers.

This session will explore how disability-inclusive practices can be integrated into disaster risk management and response as well as in conflict settings and peacebuilding efforts. It will highlight the role of Organizations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs) in decision-making processes, including small and local organizations, and focus on the importance of coordination, including inter-agency collaboration in humanitarian sectors in disaster and conflict settings. Specific emphasis will be placed on advancing protection and strengthening resilience of persons with disabilities in conflict and disaster and recovery and resilience strengthening settings.
