Main Event: Building connections, bridging the digital divide: an inclusive and accessible digital future for all persons with disabilities
The expansion of the internet and Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) presents both opportunities and challenges for persons with disabilities. While these technologies have the potential to equalize opportunities, significant barriers persist in areas such as education, health, employment, and political participation.
Despite progress in policy and frameworks, the disability digital divide remains a major challenge. In this session, we will explore the role of new and emerging technologies, including Artificial Intelligence, in promoting inclusion and accessibility for persons with disabilities. We will reflect on lessons learned, discuss the opportunities and challenges of digital innovation, and identify key areas that require attention to ensure digital equity for all.
The session will also explore how governments, the private sector, and civil society can work together to bridge the disability digital divide and ensure that emerging technologies are accessible, affordable, and usable worldwide.
